Napakasahol! – Pastor’s Statement On Baby River’s Funeral

Moreover, I saw under the sun that in the place of justice, wickedness was there, and in the place of righteousness, wickedness was there as well. Again I saw all the oppressions that are practiced under the sun. Look, the tears of the oppressed—with no one to comfort them! On the side of their oppressors there was power—with no one to comfort them.

– Ecclesiastes 3:16, 4:1

This is amplified by the fact that in our country powerful politicians like the Ampatuans, Bong Revilla, Imelda Marcos and Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo were given preferential and VIP treatment even as they were standing trial accused of plunder, corruption and massacre while activists like Reina Nasino and her child River receives the most inhuman of treatment by this unjust and violent state and its operatives.

No Christian or person of goodwill can ever stand without having an overwhelming feeling of rage and indignation against actions of the police during the wake of Baby River and in today’s funeral. The police harassment and snatching of the baby’s remains are an act of sacrilege of the worst kind and are clear signs on how our police force have degenerated as heartless hoodlums for this fascist state.

I join my voice with the voice of many others in the Church and other sectors to denounce this actions by the police that can only be described as diabolical.

I also encourage and ask others to openly express their indignation against this continuing acts of tyranny and injustice. Let us speak with and for baby River and her mother Reina, and speak against all forms of tyranny, violence and injustice.

To follow Christ is to resist tyranny and to speak with and for the oppressed.
