“Under My Skin” Tackles HIV/AIDS Reality in Philippines

Some members of Open Table Metropolitan Community Church had the opportunity to watch PETA Theater’s “Under My Skin”, which was written by Rody Vera and directed by Melvin Lee. It showcases PETA’s continuing advocacy in raising awareness and starting conversations about HIV and AIDS in the Philippines.

At the end of the show, there is a “talk back” session, a kind of short conversation with the show’s creators. Open Table MCC’s Rev. Joseph San Jose had the opportunity to clarify and speak that, while the vast majority of Christians have the tendency to be homophobic, judgemental, and promoter of stigma when it comes to HIV/AIDS, there also exists progressive churches, religious groups, and individual clergy who are advocates, who have open hearts, and have a progressive view on the issue, that gives hope, acceptance, and support for the PLHIV community. There are institutions such as the National Council of Church in the Philippines, United Church of Christ in the Philippines, Iglesia Filipina Independiente, Catholic orders such as the Camillians, and of course, the Metropolitan Community Church.

Some members of the Open Table Metropolitan Community Church had an opportunity to take a selfie with Cherry Pie Picache, who had the role of a doctor on PETA Theter’s “Under My Skin.”

Support PETA’s HIV awareness advocacy by watching the play. It will make you cry, laugh, and inspire you, and it will make you think. You may purchase your tickets via Ticketworld, until March 22.
