Love Incomplete – A Poem

You say that you love me,
But I am cut deep
To learn that you offer
A love incomplete.

A love that excises
What in me it finds is
Unworthy of loving,
A flaw detrimental:
A part of me which is
No short of essential.

Love rigid and narrow,
It cleaves to the marrow;
I throb at the tear where
My self has been parted,
A side which I cherished,
You’ve cast off, discarded.

If you say you love me,
I ask of you only:
Don’t love me in part;
You must love me wholly.
