The passion and death of Jesus is told to us from the lectionary reading of the gospel of John. In first century, early Christians told stories about Jesus orally.
The Apostles and other disciples told what they saw and heard either by their own selves or by other witnesses. Then when the gospels were written in various times, earliest approximately 40 years after Jesus, the gospel writings were read to retell the story of Jesus.
Sisters, brothers, and siblings in the faith, may the passion story of Jesus Christ bring us into silent solitude and give us the hope of the resurrection. Amen.
